Two low pressure areas (LPAs) have been triggering rains in Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon, the state weather bureau said.
One LPA was estimated at 550 kilometers northeast of Itbayat, Batanes while another was spotted outside the Philippine area of responsibility.
The LPA near Batanes may develop into a tropical depression within the next 48 hours while moving northeastward.
The National Capital Region, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Occidental Mindoro, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, Ilocos, Batanes, Babuyan Group of Islands, Abra, Apayao, Benguet, Zambales and Bataan will experience monsoon rains, the weather bureau said.
The two LPAs have been enhancing the southwest monsoon (habagat).
Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) hydrologist Rosalie Pagulayan said the risk of flooding and rain-induced landslides remains in the western portions of both northern Luzon and Region III (Central Luzon) as the “habagat” can further dump significant rainfall next week.
“The risk for those hazards remains high there,” she said.
In its forecast on Tuesday, the weather bureau said “habagat” can bring monsoon rain over extreme northern Luzon’s Batanes province and Babuyan Islands, northern Luzon’s west-lying Region I (Ilocos) and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) provinces of Abra, Apayao and Benguet as well as Zambales and Bataan provinces in the western side of Region III (Central Luzon).
